Jay Sharp

JaySharpMusic — the multi-talented musician, producer, and engineer — brings a unique blend of classical roots, gospel soul, and hip-hop sensibilities to every project. Born in Huntsville, Alabama and raised across the globe as a military kid, Jay's journey began at the age of five with classical piano lessons, quickly evolving into a passion for live music, as he played for youth choirs and churches throughout Virginia.

After high school, Jay's sights were set on studying computer science at Johnson C. Smith University, but fate redirected him to Norfolk State University. There, his talents caught the ear of campus police officer and former Loud Records executive Chris "Big Sam" Samuels, who christened him "Jay Sharp." Under Samuels' mentorship, Jay landed his first radio role, producing for Norfolk's WNSB-FM HOT 91 alongside Doug Perry, where he honed his skills behind the boards and found his sound in radio.

With his career gaining momentum, Jay sharpened his production chops working alongside industry veterans like Sprague Williams and Bo McKenzie, both proteges of Teddy Riley. His A&R instincts also led him to recruit talent for Greg Calloway's Defient Entertainment, where he contributed to the label's artist development and production efforts.

Jay's journey soon led him to the West Coast, collaborating with Mumtaz Morris and expanding his network in Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he's produced for and collaborated with renowned artists, including iTunes placements with billboard charting artist Stevie Diamond. Most recently, Jay produced "Love The Pain Away" for Raheem DeVaughn's acclaimed Winter In Love EP, solidifying his place as a versatile producer in the R&B landscape.
